3-DAY CURFEW DECLARED IN ABA

Governor OkezieIkpeazu of Abia State has declared a curfew in Aba amid growing security concerns there.

He said in a statement that the Curfew was in reaction to reported clashes between some groups in the State, especially Sunday’s clash between members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and troops of the Nigerian Army.

According to the statement, under the Curfew, residents of Aba are to remain indoors from Six pm to Six am starting from yesterday till tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Brigade Commander, Nigeria Army 14 Brigade Ohafia, Brigadier-General Abdul Ibrahim has described the attack on some Journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abia State Council Secretariat by some group of soldiers as a disaster of unimaginable proportion.

Brigadier General Ibrahim stated this when he visited the NUJ Press Center to access the level of destruction done by his men.

He condemned the action, stating that the soldiers did not have the authority for taking such action.

Brigadier-General Ibrahim promised that Army would replace all the materials his men destroy during the attack at the NUJ office.

About six journalists were injured in the attack, while their IPADS, phones and property were also destroyed.

According to eye witness, the soldiers numbering about three hundred were moving in a convoy of show of strength inside Umuahia and on reaching the NUJ Press Centre invaded the place alleging that Journalists in the centre were taking pictures of them.
