CHIOMA NNAJI WINS THE MAIDEN COAL CITY INDEPENDENCE MUSIC TALENT HAUNT.

Youths are advised to discover their talents and develop same for the interest of the society.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Enugu State Governor on Community Relations, Chief Okezie Nwanjoku, stated this at the Grand Finale of the Coal City Independence Music Talent Haunt, held at the Radio Nigeria, Enugu Event Centre.

20 contestants from the South East participated in the competition designed to celebrate Nigeria at 57.

The event was aimed at encouraging youths to show case their talents in music and maximize us e of their potentialities.

Chief Okezie Nwanjoku stressed the need for youths to take advantage of their God given talents to create job for themselves.

“Helping them to discover other innate qualities in them is very, very important.”

Earlier in an address of welcome, the Zonal Director, Federal Radio corporation of Nigeria, Enugu National Station, Mr. Ike Okere described the event as an occasion to attract youths to the programme of the Station.

“We want to make our station youth friendly and use the opportunities we will be offering the winner for free to brand herself.”

Mr. Okere said youths in rural communities would be involved in event.

The General Manager, Coal City FM, Joy Obitulata who expressed optimism that the programme would become an annual event, called on parents to provide enabling environment for their  children to develop their talents.

“Parents do not restrict your children, help them to discover themselves.”

The Winner of the contest, Chioma Nnaji could not hide her excitement, saying she was over excited.

“It has been so wonderful here, I’m over excited, so, so over excited.”

Two participants described the event as a veritable opportunity to showcase different talents among the youth.

“This is just an opportunity for young talents in their aspiration to come over to sing.

“Actually, it is something that is very encouraging for up and coming artistes.”

However, some of the respondents expressed unhappiness with the decision of the judges on the overall winner.

“The person that got first position, I don’t think she deserved the position.

“Even the last contestant that said meaningful words did not win.

“I must tell you the honest truth I’m not really impressed with the result.”

The epoch making occasion, which is the maiden edition, attracted youths and distinguished personalities from within and outside Enugu metropolis, while FRCN national Choir presented special rendition.
