EKWEREMADU INSISTS ON RESTRUCTURING AS A PANACEA TO GOOD GOVERNANCE

Restructuring of the socio-political and economic policies of the country has been identified as a pre-requisite to guarantee the unity, prosperity and good governance of the country.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu stated this while delivering the 3rd Adada Lecture entitled “Restructuring and the Nigerian Youth,” at the Princess Alexandria Auditorium and Unity Hall, University of Nigeria Nsukka.

Restructuring in the recent time has come to the limelight in the discourse by individuals and various groups that are concerned in providing solution to the nation’s socio-economic and political problems.

How restructuring could benefit all parts of the country and address the fears of those opposing the idea remains a major challenge to its actualization.

Providing answers to these, the Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu identified the youths as the greatest beneficiaries and losers of whatever shape Nigeria takes in the coming years and urged them to champion the course.

On why restructuring is so divisive, even among the youths, who stand to benefit greatly from it, Chief Ekweremadu stressed that sectional sentiments, ethnicity, religion, ignorance and lack of constructive engagement and enlightenment were the major reasons..

Earlier in an address of welcome, the President, Association of Nsukka Professors, Professor Chris Nnabuike Onah described the topic of the lecture as a significant intervention in the life of the nation and expressed the hope that the youths were properly guided.

The Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was represented on the occasion by the Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eze while the Vice Chancellor University of Nigeria, Nsukka was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Charles Igwe.

The occasion was organised by the Association of Nsukka
