EKWEREMADU, UGWUANYI & ORTOM LAMENT EKWUEME’S DEATH

The Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, has expressed grief over the death of the former Vice President of Nigeria, Chief Alex Ekwueme.

Ekweremadu described the death as a sad event for Nigeria and her democracy, noting that IDE OKO, as he fondly called him, was a pillar of the nation’s democracy and the struggle for a restructured and prosperous Nigeria.

Senator Ekweremadu explained that Ekwueme was a fine gentleman and an epitome of politics without bitterness, adding that he would be remembered as a public administrator per excellence and a soldier of conscience.

While condoling the Ekwueme’s family, government and people of Anambra State and the entire nation on the great loss, Ekweremadu prayed God to grant the deceased a peaceful repose.

In the same vein, the Enugu State Governor Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has condoled with the family of the former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme.

He said his death signaled further depletion in the dwindling ranks of elder statesmen with an abiding love for country and humanity.

In a statement, the Governor said that the people of Enugu State received the news of his passing with deep sadness and consider it a huge loss not only to his family but to the entire country.

Governor Ugwuanyi maintained that the people of Enugu mourn with his family and, on behalf of the government of Enugu State, offered his deepest condolences and expressed gratitude for the gift of the icon to the democracy of the country.

Similarly, the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, says the death of former Nigeria’s Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme is a huge loss to the nation and Africa at large.

Governor Ortom describes the late Ekwueme as a great Nigerian and one of the country’s illustrious sons who as Vice-President lived an exemplary life style and demonstrated a peaceful disposition.

He states that Nigerians will remember Dr. Ekwueme for his selfless contributions for the return of democracy to the country after many years of military intervention.

The Governor commiserates with the Ekwueme’s family, the entire people of the South East and all Nigerians for the irreparable loss.

He prays that God may grant the soul of Dr Alex Ekwueme eternal rest.
