IKPEAZU AND UMAHI LOUD CONTRIBUTIONS OF ARMED FORCES TO NATIONAL PEACE AND SECURITY

Abia State Governor,OkezieIkpeazuhas lauded the contributions of the nation’s fallen heroes and pledged the readiness of state government to assist the Nigerian legion.

Dr. Ikpeazu made this known in a message to an interdenominational church service to mark this year’s Armed Forces and Remembrance Day in Umuahia.

The Governor was represented at the eventby his deputy,Mr.UdeOkochukwu.

The Coordinator Abia Prayer Network, Pastor Patrick Ikechi called on Nigerians to uphold the nation’s peace and unity; and avoid acts capable of causing crisis.

Pastor Ikechi noted that no meaningful achievement could be recorded in an atmosphere of rancour and stressed the need for Nigerians to appreciate the selfless sacrifice of the country’s armed forces.

In a remark, the army chaplain, 14 Brigade Ohafia, Major Emmanuel Adamu urged Nigerians to remain supportive to the armed forces in their determination to tackle security challenges witnessed in the country.

The event featured special renditions and intercessory prayers for the peace and unity of Nigeria.

In a similar vein, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has called on all militant groups operating in the country to emulate Biafran soldiers who against all odds surrendered to the Nigerian Government to return the country to the path of peace.

Governor Umahi made the call in a message to an Interdenominational Church Service to mark this year’s Armed Forces and Remembrance Day at Government House Chapel Abakaliki.
Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, Governor Umahi described the surrender as one of the most difficult tasks by any armed group and expressed appreciation to both Nigerian and Biafran soldiers for the sacrifices made to preserve the unity of the country.

He lamented that Nigeria had continued to fight other forms of wars years after the end of the civil war and urged the Federal Government to also set aside a day to remember members of paramilitary agencies who lost their lives of daily basis to maintain peace in the country.

The Chairman, Nigerian Legion in the State, retired Captain Fidelis Ogodocommended Governor David Umahi for prioritizing their welfare but appealed to the State Government to approve their request for monthly subvention.

In a sermon, Government House Chaplain, Pastor Eunice Oyeyemi enjoined the faithful not to allow their personal gains on earth to becloud their God given assignment for the development of humanity.

Highlight of the church service was special prayers offered for members of the Nigeria Armed Forces, the Nigeria Legion and the Government.
