INDEFINITE STRIKE ROCKS FEDERAL NEUROPSYCHIATRIC HOSP ENUGU

Medical Services at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu have been paralyzed following an indefinite strike, embarked by the workers.

The strike was declared by the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, an umbrella union of all associations and workers in the hospital excluding the resident doctors.

The industrial action commenced at the end of the seven day ultimatum issued to the hospital management by the unions.

A visit to the Federal Neuropsychiatric hospital, New Haven Enugu showed that healthcare services have been suspended in compliance to the industrial action declared by the unions.

The patients were left to the care of the hospital management and the resident doctors who were not part of the industrial action.

The Deputy Chairman of JOHESU in the hospital, Comrade Anthony Ozurumba, who spoke on behalf of the unions, enumerated their demands.

Also one of the labour leaders, Comrade Friday Oduburu, noted that efforts to forestall the industrial action yielded no result.

An aggrieved hospital staff, Mr. Bob Igwuilo explained that the controversies rearing up in the hospital were beyond the demands of the Union alleging that some senior members of staff of the hospital were unduly suspended by the management.

Mr. Igwuilo also alleged that the hospital management was reluctant in implementing the directions of the Federal Ministry of health on the suspension saga.

It could be recalled that the Personal Secretary to the Chief Medical Director Federal Neuropsychiatric hospital New Haven Enugu, Mrs. Stella Achara, is facing trial at an Enugu High Court for alleged job scam amounting to the tune of ₦14, 000,000.00.

The matter which was earlier scheduled for in November last year was adjourned to the nineteenth of this month.

However efforts to get the reaction of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Jojo Onwukwe were abortive.
