INEC RECORDS HIGH TURNOUT IN VOTER REGISTERATION

There is noticeable increase in the number of qualified residents of Ebonyi State seeking to obtain Permanent Voters Cards in the thirteen Local Government Areas of the State.

Correspondent AmechiOdo who has been monitoring the exercise reports that this is as a result of sustained sensitization and adoption of new strategies by stakeholders in electoral process.

Although the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC appears to be keeping the number of eligible voters so far registered in the state close to its chest, there are indications that many qualified residence of the state have obtained thepermanent voters cards.

A visit to some of the INEC registration centres in the state shows that the number of people seeking to obtain permanent voters cards is on the rise.

One of them, Mr. EkeneNwankwo attributed the development to increased sensitization and the burning desire to elect better leaders in the next general election.

Another voter, Mr.Emeka Johnson said in addition to the sensitization, the state government had made possession of permanent voter’s card a prerequisite for participation in its empowerment programmes.

The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation Senator Emmanuel Onwe had in a telephone interview commended stakeholders in electoral processes for the noticeable improvement in the exercise.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Professor GodswillObioma noted that increased registration was as a result of additional ten registration centres created by the commission in the state.

Professor Obioma urged those who were yet to register to take advantage of the additional centres as it would be rotating from ward to ward.
