WORLD RADIO DAY: UNESCO WANTS ATTENTION TO TRADITIONAL SPORTS

February 13 every year is celebrated as World Radio Day.

The celebration was proclaimed on November 3, 2011 by the 36 General Conference of United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO and was first observed on February 13, 2012.

It is a day dedicated to remember the unique power of Radio in touching lives and bringing people together across every corner of the world.

Speaking on the theme of this year’s event “Radio and Sports,” the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Anthonio Cuterres, called for celebration of radio and sports as ways of helping people achieve their full potential.

Meanwhile, the UNESCO calls on all radio stations around the world to showcase the beauty of sports in all its diversity, especially traditional sports that connect people to their cultural heritage.
